The sophomore earned two top-10 finishes

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University men's track and field sophomore Payne Wylie (Saskatchewan, Canada-Colonsay School) represented the Canadian National Team at the Pan American U20 Championships in San José, Costa Rica Friday through Sunday, July 19-21. The Saskatchewan, Canada native competed individually in the 110-meter hurdles while also running the third leg of Team Canada's 4x400-meter relay.

On Friday, Wylie finished fifth in the 110 hurdles competition, running to a personal-best mark of 13.47 (90cm).  The effort bested his semifinal performance by .36 seconds and topped competitors from both Canada and Brazil. Sunday saw the trackster aid Canada's 4x400 relay team to a seventh-place effort, as the cohort crossed the finish line with a time of 3:14.71.

When asked about his thoughts on Wylie's performances, head coach John Goodridge commented that "while Coach (Sterling) Roberts and I are certainly proud to see Payne set a personal best in this hurdle event and place fifth overall, I am sure Canadian Track and Field is equally happy and proud of Payne's effort and result."
