EMU hits the water one last time before the CAA Championships Friday and Saturday, May 10-11
PHILADELPHIA, Penn. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's rowing team travels to the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Penn. to compete in the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta Friday and Saturday, May 10-11. The regatta marks the team's last regular season event on the water before racing in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships Sunday, May 19.
The Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta is regarded as the largest college regatta in the United States, bringing boats from more than 100 colleges and universities around Northern America to compete in the annual event.
EMU will send one Novice Eight boat to race in the Frosh/Novice Heavyweight Eight event, competing against 18 boats from universities such as the Ohio State University, Purdue University, as well as squads from CAA-foes Villanova University and the University of Delaware.
The Eagles most recently competed at the Mid-American Collegiate Rowing Association (MACRA) Championships hosted by Grand Valley State University Sunday April 28, as the team brought home two titles between the First and Second Varsity Eight boats. Overall, all five EMU entries raced in their respective Grand Finals, tallying two gold, one silver, and two bronze finishes to earn a fifth-place mark in the regatta's "Lindamood" Team Points trophy race.
Racing in Philadelphia is set to begin at 7 a.m., with the women's Frosh/Novice Heavyweight Eight time trials scheduled as the sixth race to hit the water at 7:32 a.m. Based on the results from the time trials, teams will be slotted into three semi-final heats, beginning later in the day at 2:30 p.m. Boats that qualify for final heats of the event will race again Saturday, with the Third Final set to begin at 7:50 a.m., the Petite Final shortly after at 7:55 a.m., and the Grand Final starting at 1:40 p.m. Results from the race will be available here, while nearly live updates will be provided on the team's twitter page @EMURowing.
