Smith and Goff Finish 2019 Campaigns in Day Two of NCAA East Regionals

Smith topped her seed by three placements and marked a career-best time with her steeplechase effort
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) - Senior captain Allyson Goff (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern (Georgia State)) and redshirt junior Emily Smith (Somerset, England- Wells Cathedral School) completed their 2019 outdoor seasons Friday, May 24, at the second day of the NCAA East Regional Championships hosted by University of North Florida. Smith ended her first season donning the Green and White with a career-best time in the steeplechase, while Goff earned a top-40 finish in her first-ever appearance at the East Regionals.
Smith earned a 18th-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing the race in 10:20.80. The mark is her career-best time and topped her entry seed by .14 seconds. She not only topped her entrance-placement by three places but also finished six seconds faster than the Big Ten's bronze medalist in the event, University of Michigan's Alice Hill.
Goff finished in the top-40 athletes in the 100-meter hurdles, clearing the obstacles with a time of 13.77. The Mid-American Conference runner-up in the event topped the 100 hurdles MAC champion Akron's Dara Perry by .003 seconds while also besting her seed mark by 10 places.
Tomorrow's East Regionals competition begins at 2:45 p.m, with the first Eagles racing at 6 p.m in the 4x100-meter relay.
