Rowing Qualifies for Grand Final at Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta

EMU’s Novice Eight boat earned the top time in both of its races Friday
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (EMUEAgles.com) – Eastern Michigan University rowing's Novice Eight boat kicked off competition at the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta Friday, May 10, with a pair of top finishes to qualify for Saturday's Grand Final in the Frosh/Novice Heavyweight Eight event.
"We did a very good job of executing what we needed to do in order to secure a spot in the Grand Final," noted Head Novice Coach Delaney McGuire. "We know what we can improve on and are excited to hit the water and race for medals tomorrow."
The all freshmen Novice Eight boat of coxswain Antinique Kirksey (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth), Hannah Barry (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way West), Priscilla Brom (Rockford, Mich.-Rockford), Brianna Gracey (Dayton, Ohio-Chaminade Julienne), Anna Eschenburg (Bruce Township, Mich.-Romeo), MacKaela Geisler (Mount Horeb, Wis.-Mount Horeb), Noelle Haines (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia), Mary Hemgesberg (Freeland, Mich.-Freeland), and Caitlin Rodanhisler (Hopkins, Mich.-Hopkins) started its day on the water with the best time of all boats in the preliminary heats, crossing the finish line in 6:49.09. The Eagles then competed in the semifinals, where they took first place in their heat with a time of 7:57.34, the third-fastest mark of the second round of competition.
EMU continues its time at the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta Saturday, May 11, competing in the Grand Final of the Novice/Frosh Heavyweight Eight event at 1:40 p.m. Results from the race will be available here, while the team's Twitter page, @EMURowing, will provide updates from the water.
