Lewis owns a 3.22 grade point average in business

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University sophomore guard Courtnie Lewis (Belton, Mo.-Belton) of the EMU women's basketball team was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Academic team, the league office announced Monday, April 8. It is the first time Lewis has earned the honor in her career.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.

A business major with a 3.22 GPA, Lewis played in all 31 games for the Eagles, making 28 starts. She averaged 11.2 points per game, the third-best mark on the team, while also setting career-highs in minutes (914),  minutes per game (29.5), and free throw percentage (78.6). Lewis paced the Green and White with 57 triples and ranked 14th in the MAC with 1.84 three-pointers per game.

The Belton, Mo. native finished the season with 19 double-digit scoring efforts, highlighted by three 20+ point performances. She posted her best performance of the season at Purdue Fort Wayne, Dec. 8, dropping 28 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including six three-pointers.

EMU's season came to a close in the MAC Tournament Quarterfinals in Cleveland, Ohio, March 13, where the ninth-seeded Eagles came up short in overtime, 88-80, against the top-seeded Chippewas of Central Michigan University.
