EMU Ends 2019 Campaign at Ann Arbor Regionals

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team closed out its 2019 campaign at the NCAA Regional Championships, Friday, April 5, in Ann Arbor, Mich. Juniors Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) and Allie Smith (Telford, Pa.-Souderton) competed in all-around and vault, respectively, while sophomore Cortney Bezold (Maineville, Ohio-Bishop Fenwick) competed on bars.
In the first session of the day, Dobronics started on bars and scored 9.725. The junior rotated to beam, earning a 9.800, and followed that up with a strong performance on floor, hitting 9.800. The Orland Park, Ill. native finished her day on vault, scoring 9.750, and closing out Regionals with an all-around score of 39.075.
Meanwhile, Smith had to sit through the first two rotations of the first session before competing as a specialist on vault, earning a 9.625.
During the second session of the day, Bezold had a strong showing as a bars specialist, scoring 9.850.
Eastern Michigan's season now comes to a close despite a fantastic run. The Eagles will turn their attention to the offseason and take a short break before getting back to work in preparation for next season.
