AZUSA, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) – Senior captain Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville) and redshirt junior Emily Smith (Somerset, England-Wells Cathedral School) of the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team finished their time at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University Friday, April 19.
Both EMU runners competed in the 1500m, as Meyers competed in the event's invitational heats, while Smith participated in the open heats.
Meyers finished 27th overall with a time of 4:21.59, just .36 seconds off her career-best effort. Her time is the third-best run by a Mid-American Conference athlete in the 2019 outdoor season.
In her collegiate debut in the 1500m, Smith earned a 42nd-place finish with a time of 4:39.00. Her performance rounds out the top-20 MAC efforts this season.
EMU now looks to its next competitions, participating in the Hillsdale "GINA" Relays hosted by Hillsdale College Thursday through Saturday, April 25-27 and the Jesse Owens Invitational Friday and Saturday, April 26-27. Thursday's events at the Hillsdale "GINA" Relays are set to begin at 6 p.m., while Friday and Saturday's efforts are scheduled to start at 12 p.m. and 10 a.m., respectively.
