IOWA CITY, Iowa (EMUEagles.com) – It was a tale of two rounds for the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team at the Hawkeye Invitational Saturday, April 20, on the par-71, 6,884-yard Finkbine Golf Course. The Eagles posted a 283 in the morning round before the total ballooned to 295 to finish the day in 12th-place with a cumulative total of 578.
Sophomore Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) posted a 66 in the first round before adding a 75 to finish the day tied for 25th at 141. Celone's round of 66 is tied for the 11th-lowest single round in EMU history, while it is the 16th round of 66 ever fired by an EMU student-athlete. Overall, it was the lowest 18-hole mark by an Eagle since Tyler Lewis notched a 64 (-8) at the Loyola Intercollegiate, Feb. 26, 2018.
Senior Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) is tied for 29th with a 142 (72-70) and sophomore Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) added a 146 (73-73) in 48th. Rounding out the lineup, junior Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin) is in 63rd with a 149 (72-77) and redshirt freshman Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) ranks 71st with a 153 (73-80).
Kansas' Charlie Hillier sits on top of the leaderboard with a 132 (68-64), while No. 43 ranked Iowa holds the team lead with a 539 (262-277).
EMU returns to the course Sunday, April 21, for the final round. The Eagles will start tee times at 8:30 a.m. CT on holes 11-15.
