Ty Celone Named MAC Golfer of the Week

Celone's top-10 finish led the Eagles to a runner-up showing at the Rutherford Intercollegiate
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University sophomore golfer Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St. Joseph's) was named the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week for the second time this season, April 18, after a strong showing at the Rutherford Intercollegiate.
Celone previously took home the award after his third-place finish at the EKU Raising Canes Intercollegiate, Sept. 15-16.
The Long Sault, Ontario native picked up his fourth career top-10 showing at the Rutherford Intercollegiate, April 13-14, with a two-day mark of 213 (69-71-73) in a tie for ninth. Ranked 294th in the latest Golfweek Collegiate Rankings, Celone has posted 14 rounds at par-or-better this season with a scoring average of 72.00.
Overall, it was the ninth-best 54-hole scoring mark in program history that helped the EMU men's golf team to a runner-up finish. The Eagles finished the three rounds at 857 (283-283-291) to cap the event at five-over par, two strokes behind host Penn State University at 855 (287-278-290). Individually, the squad had four players finish inside the top-15 spots for the first time since the 2014 MAC Championships.
EMU competes for the final time before the MAC Championships, April 26-28, when it participates in the Hawkeye Invitational, April 20-21. The 54-hole event, hosted by the University of Iowa, will take place on the par-71, 6,884-yard Finkbine Golf Course.
