Career-Bests Highlight Day Two of Eagles' Tri-Meet Weekend

EMU recorded eight career-best efforts in San Marcos, Austin, and Stanford

SAN MARCOS, Texas (EMUEagles.com) – Career-best efforts highlighted the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team's performances Friday, March 29, as the Eagles competed in the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by Texas State University, the Texas Relays, hosted by the University of Texas, and the Stanford Invitational, hosted by Stanford University.
The Eagles began Friday at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, competing in the 4x100m relay, 100m Hurdles, 100m, and 4x400m relay. EMU's 4x100m relay squad of senior Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell) and juniors Micah Johnston (Toledo, Ohio-Toledo Christian), Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio-West Geauga), and Kolby Ganther (Park City, Kan.-Northeast Magnet) opened the Eagles' day with a 45.73 preliminary heat effort in the event, placing eighth overall and earning a spot in tomorrow morning's finals. Harris followed her leg of the relay with a tied-for-36th-place effort in the 100m, crossing the finish line in 11.83 seconds. Additionally, running in the 100m was fellow 4x100 relay member Mason, who recorded a career-best run of 11.92 in the event, good for 52nd overall.
Freshman Alysse Marie Wade (Mansfield, Ohio-St. Peters) and redshirt senior Allyson Goff (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern (Georgia State)) earned top-50 finishes in the 100m Hurdles at the Relays, finishing just .02 seconds apart, with times of 14.18 and 14.20, respectively. The Eagles closed out their performance Friday at the Texas Relays with a 16th-place finish in the 4x400m Relay, as freshmen Tiffany Cernej-Garcia (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Pioneer) and Mair Edwards (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School), sophomore Keypathwa Gibson (Toledo, Ohio-Roy C. Start), and Johnston finished the 1600m effort in 3:47.27, besting squads from the University of Akron and Texas State University.
EMU then turned its sight to the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas, where freshman Angel Gazaway (Cincinnati, Ohio-Princeton) grabbed the Eagles' top finish of the day with a third-place effort in the 400m Hurdles. The Cincinnati, Ohio native cleared the obstacles in just 1:02.17, besting her previous career-best time of 1:05.13 by almost three seconds. Additionally, freshmen Morgan Iverson (Hoschton, Ga.-Mill Creek) and Cernej-Garcia gathered top collegiate performances in the 400m Hurdles, finishing eighth and 21st overall with times of 1:03.32 and 1:06.27, respectively. Also earning a top-five finish was Ganther, as she recorded a career-best time of 11.86 in the 100m, good for fourth place. Wade also registered her career-best time in the 100m, placing 16th overall with a time of 12.22. Gibson rounded out the Eagles' top-10 efforts at the Bobcat Invitational, earning a 10th-place finish in the 400m with a career-best time of 56.92.
Closing out the Green and White's Friday was senior Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community) and junior Emily Smith (Somerset, England-Wells Cathedral School), competing in the 5000m at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif. Smith placed 20th, crossing the finish line with a time of 16:59.15, while Meyers was unable to finish the race.
The Eagles continue a busy weekend of competition Saturday, March 30, as they close out their performances at the Bobcat Invitational and Texas Relays. EMU's day will begin at 9 a.m. CT with the Javelin at the Bobcat Invitational, followed by the 4x100m Relay at the Texas Relays, scheduled to begin 1:30 p.m. CT.
