OXFORD, Ohio. (EMUEagles.com) - After back-to-back home wins over the University of Northwestern Ohio and Concordia University, March 26-27, the Eastern Michigan baseball team heads south, where it will battle Miami (Ohio) in a three-game weekend series, March 29-31, inside Hayden Park. The series will commence Friday, March 29 at 5 p.m., with games to follow Saturday and Sunday (March 30-31), at 4 p.m., and 1 p.m., respectively.
Make sure to follow the games via Twitter and live stats, at @EMU_Baseball, and EMUEagles.com. Video is available courtesy of Miami University, at MiamiRedHawks.com/watch

FIRST THINGS FIRST: Following a 13-run performance against Northwestern Ohio, March 26, the Eastern Michigan baseball team tallied 11 runs against Concordia (Mich.), March 27. In addition to completing its most successful two-game offensive stretch of the season, the feat marks the first time that Eastern has scored 10-or-more runs in back-to-back games under head coach Eric Roof.

GRAND OLD TIME: In the midst of a 3-for-4 day at the plate against Concordia, March 27, junior Zachary Owings delivered the highlight of the game when he blasted his first career grand slam in the second inning. A "no doubter," Owings drove the ball clear over the right field fence.
Following the game, Owings commented on the hit, saying " I got a good piece (of the ball), and hit it far," adding, "The ball is flying pretty well at Oestrike (Stadium), and it doesn't always do that."
With the knock, Owings became the first Eagle to hit a grand-slam since Kolton Schenker, who did so in a 11-9 setback at Dayton, March 6, 2018.

HITTING A HIGH NOTE: EMU tallied a new single-game season high when it racked up 14 hits en route to an 11-6 win over Concordia (Mich.), March 27. In all, seven Eagles knocked a hit, with five players recording a multi-hit day. Zachary Owings and Cameron Cruz led the way, tallying three-hits a piece. Nate Jones, Stephen Karis, and Taylor Hopkins all added two hits for the Green and White.

13 AND COUNTING: Going 3-for-4 and launching his first career grand-slam in a game against Concordia, March 27, junior Zachary Owings extended his team-high hitting streak to 13 games, dating back to March 9, against Marshall University.
During the stretch, Owings has posted a .415 batting average (22-for-53), while pounding five extra-base hits, and driving in 12 RBIs.

(WAS) GOOD TO BE HOME: Before its first game at Oestrike Stadium, March 26, the Eastern Michigan baseball team was tasked with playing its first portion of the season on the road, traveling to five different states before suiting up in the mitten.
In total, the Eagles played 23 consecutive road games to begin the 2019 campaign, which, as of March 26, was the highest number of such in the nation. Only two teams are scheduled to play more consecutive road games than EMU this season, as North Dakota State and Western Michigan will play 26 and 31 games on the road to begin their seasons, respectively.

SEVEN-ELEVEN: With its home-opening win over Northwestern Ohio, March 26, Eastern secured its seventh home-opeing victory in the last eleven years, giving EMU a .636 winning percentage on opening day in that span.
The Eagles are now 2-0 inside Oestrike Stadium this season, having defeated neighboring Concordia University (Mich.), 11-6, for its second home win, March 27.

MCGUIRE ON FIRE: Tossing four innings for the Green and White against Concordia (Mich.) March 27, and improving his record to 2-0 on the season was sophomore Luke McGuire. The right-hander dominated in his four-inning effort, allowing just two hits, no walks, and striking out one Cardinal along the way. McGuire is now a perfect 5-0 in his young career.

ADD ANOTHER: Already a perfect 7-0 in its all-time series with Ann Arbor-based Concordia University, the Eagles added another victory over the Cardinals, 11-6, March 27 at Oestrike Stadium. The win gives Eastern its eighth all-time victory over its neighbor, and keeps the Eagles perfect against CUAA all-time.

ALL-TIME VS. MIAMI: When Eastern steps inside Hayden Park to square off with Miami, March 29, it will mark the 118th meeting between the historic Mid-American Conference programs. A back-and-forth battle historically, the Eagles have a 60-57 edge over the RedHawks in the series.
Most recently, the Eagles posted a shutout against Miami en route to a 4-0 victory in the final game of the three-game series between the schools in 2018, March 25. Zachary Owings led the way, providing two hits for EMU, while pitcher Luke Devenney blanked the RedHawks for his second win of the season.

TRIPLE TRACKER: While the Eastern offense has been strong in many categories throughout the season, its three-bagging efforts are especially noteworthy, both individually and as a collective unit. EMU ranks 26th nationally in triples this season (third in MAC), and has two players ranked inside the top 30 individually. Ranking 5th nationally is Zachary Owings, whose four triples leads the EMU offense and ranks second in the MAC. Jeff Timko, a redshirt sophomore, ranks 28th nationally with three triples on the season, good for third in the MAC.

ON THE HORIZON: Following its three-game series with Miami, Eastern will return to Ypsilanti, where it will play a four-game home stand at Oestrike Stadium, welcoming in Oakland University for a single game, Wed. April 3, before hosting Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green Fri.-Sun, April 5-7.
