Tyler Underwood and Cameron Hart named conference track and field athletes of the week
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University senior track and field athletes Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton) and Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio-Bishop Hartley) were named Mid-American Conference Track and Field Athletes of the week, the league office announced Wednesday, March 20. This is Underwood's third weekly recognition of the 2018-19 track and field campaign, while the nod marks Hart's first honor by the conference this season.
Underwood led the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team off to a strong start in its outdoor campaign at the Yellow Jacket Invitational March 16, in Atlanta, Ga. Underwood continued his success from the indoor season to his outdoor debut, earning a first-place finish in the 400m with a conference-topping effort of 46.85. He followed his individual event title running a leg of the Eagles' podium-topping 4x100m relay effort, besting teams from the University of North Carolina and Kennesaw State University with a time of 40.62.
His 400m time is currently the fifth-best time by a NCAA athlete, while EMU's 4x100m relay finish is ranked 18th nationwide.
Hart started off his final outdoor track and field season in the Green and White with an event title in the Long Jump at the Yellow Jacket Invitational March 16, in Atlanta, Ga. The Columbus, Ohio native snagged the Long Jump title with a leap clearing 7.15m, the best by a Mid-American Conference athlete this outdoor season. Hart also earned a fourth-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.95m.
The Eagles have a short break before their next competition, as they head to the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University, March 29-30. For more information on EMU's upcoming schedule, visit the Men's Track and Field Schedule page at EMUEagles.com.
