Bezold and Dobronics Named to All-MAC Teams

Bezold garnered First Team All-MAC honors, while Dobronics was a second team selection
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics teams saw two Eagles named to the All-Mid-American Conference teams as the league office announced its postseason awards Wednesday, March 20. Sophomore Cortney Bezold (Maineville, Ohio-Bishop Fenwick) was named First Team All-MAC, while junior Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) was tabbed a Second Team All-MAC selection for the second straight season.
The duo are the most All-MAC selections under second-year head coach Katie Minasola, as well as the most for Eastern since having two in 2017. Bezold is the first Eagle to earn All-MAC First Team honors since 2017. Meanwhile, Dobronics joins former EMU standouts Kendall Valentin and Anna Willette as one-of-three two-time All-MAC selections in program history.
A two-time MAC Specialist of the Week honoree, Bezold has been one the conference's best on bars this season. Competing in 11 meets for the Eagles, the Maineville, Ohio native has posted five scores of 9.8500-or-better. She scored a career-best 9.900 at the George Washington Quad, Feb. 22. Currently, Bezold holds a RQS of 9.850, the top mark in the conference.
A workhorse for the Eagles, Dobronics has competed in the all-around in all 11 meets for the Green and White this season. The Orland Park, Ill. native has hit 39.000-or-better six times, including posting a career-high score of 39.250 against Western Michigan, Feb. 8. Dobronics tied a career-best with a 9.900 on floor at the George Washington Quad, Feb. 22, and then again versus Kent State, March 15. Altogether, the junior has racked up 17 scores of 9.8-or-higher.
The Eagles make the trek to DeKalb, Ill. with hopes of reclaiming the MAC Championship Saturday, March 23. Action inside Northern Illinois University's Convocation Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
