Kappa Bedoui, Omar Ibrahim, and Trent Barron join Eagles for 2019-2020 campaign

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team has signed three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, Head Men's Cross Country and Track and Field Coach John Goodridge announced Monday, Feb. 11.  The group of signees includes two field specialists in Kappa Bedoui (Doha, Qatar- Aspire Academy) and Omar Ibrahim (Cairo, Egypt- Aspire Academy), as well as sprinter Trent Barron (Flint, Mich.-Carman Ainsworth)

"I am extremely excited about this recruiting class," Head Men's Cross Country and Track and Field Coach John Goodridge remarked. "Coupled with our returners, the future of EMU track and field is very bright."

Bedoui joins the Eagles after prepping at the Aspire Academy located in Doha, Qatar under head coach Ivica Jakelich. He holds personal-best efforts in the hammer throw of 75m with a 5kg weight while clearing 68m with a 6kg weight. In 2018, Kappa qualified for the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships. Furthermore, Bedoui achieved a distance throw of 63.67m to finish 12th at the IAAF World Under-20 Championship in Tampere, Finland. With his performance, he moved to 25th-overall in the world under-20 rankings in his specialty.

"Kappa enters EMU with international championship experience and an amazing feel for the hammer at a young age," Assistant Coach Brian Korn said. "He has a chance to own the hammer and weight in our conference for the next four years."

Ibrahim comes to Ypsilanti from Cairo, Egypt, also receiving his secondary education at Aspire Academy in Doha, Qatar.  A teammate of Bedoui, he holds career-best efforts of 17.51m in the shotput and 53.10m in the discus.

"Omar comes from a rich family tradition of throwing, coupled with tremendous leverage and raw ability," noted Korn. "He should anchor or throws crew for the next four years as a future multiple event scorer and Mid-American Conference Championship contender."

A Michigan native, Barron comes to Eastern after prepping at Carman Ainsworth High School under head coach Kenn Domerese. A three-time captain, Barron was a part of the teams that hold the Cavaliers' 4x200m and 4x400m meter school record-holding relays, while also leading the team to a first-place finish at the Saginaw Valley Conference championships in 2017. He has collected all-state, all-regional, and all-Saginaw Valley Conference honors, while also playing for the Cavaliers' football team, earning all-conference accolades at cornerback.

"We're thrilled to have Trent join us," noted assistant coach Sterling Roberts. "He's the top returning 400-meter man in Michigan, and will only continue to improve."

EMU's 2019-2020 competition schedule will be released at a later date. To keep up with all things Eagles' Men's Track and Field, follow the team on twitter @EMUMXC_TF.
