Men's Cross Country Set for NCAA Great Lakes Regional

Eagles return to action after earning their MAC-record 23rd conference title
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – After winning the 2019 Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championship title race, Nov. 2, the Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team turns its attention to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Friday, Nov. 15, in Madison, Wis. The Eagles are to compete against five nationally-ranked opponents, as No. 9 Wisconsin, No. 13 Indiana, No. 16 Michigan, No. 17 Purdue, and No. 19 Notre Dame are among the 30-team field.
Last year's meet saw the Green and White finish in 16th place with a team score of 455 points. Senior Austin Wicker (Pinckney, Mich.-Pinckney) led EMU as he placed 50th with a personal-best 10K time of 32:08, while junior Solomon Costa (Gahanna, Ohio-Gahanna Lincoln) and sophomores Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University), Andy Payne (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington), Noah Perrin (Akron, Ohio-Woodridge), and Eddie Zuercher (Rocky River, Ohio-Rocky River) also gained experience against some of the country's top programs.
The Eagles resume their postseason slate after bringing home their MAC-record 23rd conference title, and 13th over the last 15 seasons. A pair of sophomores earned vital points for the Green and White, as Payne finished in fourth place with a time of 25:35.2, while Magnusson also earned First-Team All-MAC honors as he ranked seventh at 25:42.8 . Junior Owen Day (Ottawa, Ontario-International School of Dusseldorf) rounded out the top-10 as he gained Second-Team All-MAC accolades with a time of 25:49.0.
Two more EMU harriers fnished in the top-20, as Wicker placed 18th with a time of 26:06.8, while sophomore Chris Devaney (New Plymouth, New Zealand-New Plymouth) was close behind in 20th at 26:11.6. From there, Costa finished 28th with a time of 26:27.1. Three more underclassmen also completed the 8K event, as Zuercher, freshman Josh Hill (Amherst, Ohio-Amherst Steele), and Perrin ended the race with times of 26:34.9, 27:11.5, and 27:29.3, respectively.
This weekend's meet will be held at the Thomas Zimmer Championships Cross Country Course. The women's 6K race will begin at 12:30 p.m. EST, before the men's 10K race starts at 1:30 p.m. EST.
