Solid Final Round Helps EMU at Mountaineer Invitational

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va.(EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finished the Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational hosted by No. 25 West Virginia with rounds of 306 and 292 for a final tournament total of 915 Tuesday, Oct 8.
Eastern's scoring was led by junior Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary), who bounced back from a 77 and a 78 to close with a final round 71. He finished the 54-hole event with a 226 total, ranking tied at 27th overall. It marked the fourth round of par-or-better for Collins in 2019-20 and brought the total to 21 in his EMU career.
The tournament was plagued by wet, rainy conditions on Monday as the teams were unable to complete 36 holes as originally scheduled. The field finished the second round Tuesday morning before moving directly into the third and final round.
West Virginia won the tournament title for the second straight season with a three-round team total of 864, and three Mountaineers finished in the top-10 individually. Florida Atlantic was the runner up with an 867 while Southern Miss, James Madison and UConn rounded out the top five. The Eagles finished in front of Youngstown State, Washington State, George Washington, Marshall, and Akron.
Eastern Michigan will conclude its fall season Oct. 21-22 with the Little Rock Invitational in Little Rock, Ark.
