EMU Volleyball Edged by Akron in Four Sets

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team rallied to force a fourth set against the University of Akron, but fell 18-25, 20-25, 25-23, 18-25 Saturday, Oct. 26, inside the Convocation Center.
Junior Franki Strefling (Niles, Mich.-Buchanan) paced the Eagles with 26 digs and 15 kills for her 17th double-double of the campaign, while senior Riley Taylor (Indianapolis, Ind.-Perry Meridian) contributed a team-high 43 assists and tied for the team lead with a trio of block-assists. Senior Camille Schomer (Rochester, Mich.-Oakland Christian) paced the Green and White with 28 digs and a pair of service aces, while sophomore Mackenzie Garis (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge) added 14 digs of her own.
Redshirt senior Cassie Haut (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary Catholic Central) also reached double-digits with 10 kills, and matched Taylor's total of three block-assists on the defensive end. Additionally, sophomore Heidi Fausze (Temperance, Mich.-Bedford Senior) produced eight digs and seven kills, while fellow sophomore Julia Fisher (Kailua, Hawaii-Le Jardin Academy) notched eight kills, two digs, and a block-assist.
Akron (15-6, 8-2 MAC) narrowly bested the Eagles (8-14, 3-7 MAC) in several statistical categories, including digs (93-92), assists (49-47), and service aces (4-2). The Zips ended the contest with a .209 attacking efficiency, but EMU was unable to extend the match to a decisive fifth set as it finished at a .115 clip.
Eastern will remain at the Convocation Center as it welcomes Northern Illinois Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. before hosting Western Michigan for Senior Day Saturday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m.
