Eagles Finish Fifth at Head of the Charles

This is the best finish at the event in program history

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team improved 12 spots from previous seasons, finishing in fifth place at the Head of the Charles regatta, hosted by the Cambridge Crew Club.

"We raced really well today," began head coach Kemp Savage. "This is probably the most complete race we've put together so far, and the results really speak for that. We're looking forward to going to the next race and showcasing the speed we've built."

Eastern's lineup of senior Eve Melody Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Jerome), senior Haley Dutton (West Salem, Wis.-West Salem), freshman Lena McCaslin Hendersonville, Tenn.-Pope John Paul II), senior Amanda Flora (Greenfield, Ind.-Greenfield Central), freshman Emma Boersen (West Olive, Mich.-Grand Haven), senior Ashly Matzek (Ellsworth, Wis.-Ellsworth), sophomore Caitlin Rodanhisler (Hopkins, Mich.-Hopkins), junior Carly Szymanski (Toledo, Ohio-Notre Dame Academy), and sophomore Mary Hemgesberg (Freeland, Mich.-Freeland) claimed Eastern Michigan's best time and finish at the Head of the Charles with fifth place and a time of 16:55.863.

The Eagles bested teams from the University of Pennsylvania, Louisville, North Carolina, Boston College, Boston University, UConn, Penn State, and Illinois, among other teams in the 32-boat field.

In the two previous appearances at the Head of the Charles in 2017 and 2018, the Green and White posted 17th place finishes at both races, with times of 17:50.347 and 17:47.527, respectively.

The Eagles wrap up fall racing at the Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga, Tenn. beginning Nov. 2.
