Eagles Fall On Road to Chippewas

Paul Jackson led all scorers with 21 points
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team could not overcome a second half barrage from the charity stripe by Central Michigan University, as the Eagles fell to the Chippewas, 86-82, in Mid-American Conference action Tuesday night, Jan. 29, in McGuirk Arena.
Foul trouble plagued EMU (9-12, 3-5 MAC) all game, as CMU (15-6, 4-4 MAC) knocked down 26-of-28 attempts from the free throw line, including 21-of-22 in the second half alone. The Green and White, meanwhile, went 8-of-13 from the line. The loss snapped Eastern's six-game win streak against Central.
Redshirt senior Paul Jackson (Stone Mountain, Ga.-Martin Luther King Jr. (Eastern Kentucky)) dropped 21 points and added four assists, while sophomore Kevin McAdoo (Pontiac, Mich.-West Bloomfield) poured in a season-high 20 points. Redshirt senior Elijah Minnie (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Lincoln Park (Robert Morris)) added 18 points and redshirt junior Boubacar Toure (Dakar, Senegal-Phase One Academy (Grand Canyon)) turned in a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Eagles outshot the Chippewas from the floor for the game (59.6 percent to 44.6 percent), but CMU held the advantage from downtown (40 percent to 33.3 percent). EMU was also out-rebounded in the game (28 to 31), committed more turnovers (11 to 10), and had fewer steals (4 to 5). Even though the Green and White dominated the paint points (42 to 26), Central countered with 20 second chance points compared to Eastern's 13.
EMU returns to the friendly confines of the Convocation Center Saturday, Feb. 2 for a 12 p.m. showdown with Miami University. The day is Student Greek Challenge Day that will also include an Eastern women's basketball game against Northern Illinois University following the men's contest.
