EMU looks for its 17th straight dual victory against Mid-American Conference opponents
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving team closes regular season Mid-American Conference competition Saturday, Jan. 26, when it takes on Bowling Green State University inside Jones Natatorium. The Green and White looks to close out the 2018-19 regular season with a perfect record in MAC duals for the third straight season.
EMU and BGSU last met Oct. 28, 2018, when the Eagles dominated the Falcons, 207-93 in Bowling Green, Ohio. Eastern earned event titles in 13 of the day's 16 events, led by then-juniors Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg), Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville), Stephanie Johnston (Holland, Mich.-Hamilton), and Dora Vrcic (Dubrovacka, Split, Croatia). Duncan led the competition in both Breaststroke events, finishing the 100 Breast and 200 Breast in 1:02.95 and 2:19.45, respectively. Swartz snagged both first-place finishes in the Freestyle Distance events, topping the podium in the 500 and 1000 Free with times of 5:01.40 and 10:13.56, while Johnston earned the event title in the 50 Free tapping in with a time of 23.96. Vrcic led the Eagles to one of their two podium sweeps of the day in the 200 Butterfly, finishing in just 2:05.54, three seconds faster than the field of competition.
Eastern Michigan is coming off its closest dual of the 2018-19 season, prevailing over the University at Buffalo , 159-141, Jan. 19. Duncan posted two top-10 league marks in the Eagles' victory, leading to MAC Swimmer of the Week honors. Her 100 Breast mark of 1:01.53 was the second-fastest by a MAC swimmer this season, behind only her own time of 1:00.88 at the Denison Invitational, while her time of 2:15.81 in the 200 Breast was the fifth-fastest time seen in the conference this year. Swartz dominated the distance events against the Bulls, taking home both the 500 Free and 1000 Free event titles. A podium sweep of the 1-meter dive closed out the Eagles' successful day, with both junior Brielle Johnston (Ottawa, Ontario-Catholique Franco-Quest) and senior Gabrielle Mace (Clinton, Mich.-Chippewa Valley) recording efforts that rank in the conference's top-10 scores this season.
The battle between the Eagles and Falcons is set to begin at 1 p.m. Live results for the competition will be available on the Meet Mobile app or by clicking here.
