Women's Track and Field Set Sights For Doug Hansen Open

Eagles return to action after six-day layoff
UNIVERSITY PARK, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team continues its indoor season Friday, Jan. 18, as the team travels to University Park, Mich. to participate in the Doug Hansen Open on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University. This is the first time the EMU women's team will be competing in the event.
The Green and White look to build upon its performances in the first two meets of the season, most recently at the Wolverine Invitational, Jan. 12. Senior Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community), junior Gianna Salzbrunn (North Aurora, Ill.-Montini Catholic), and sophomores Michaela Nelms (Rocky Mount, N.C.-Nash Central) and Crystal Washington (Los Angeles, Calif.-Carson) each earned top-two finishes, with Washington's 12.14m performance in the triple jump securing an event title for the Eagles. Meyers finished the 3000m run with a time of 9:29.40, marking her career-best and the sixth best time in the Eastern record books. Salzbrunn and Nelms also earned second-place finishes with career-best performances of 5.44m in the long jump and a time of 24.45 in the 200m, respectively.
The meet is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. followed by the first track event beginning at 4:00 p.m. The live results link will be available on the EMU Women's Track and Field schedule page at EMUEagles.com.
