Women's Cross Country Prepares for George Dales Invitational

This is the second straight week the Eagles face off against conference competition

THREE RIVERS, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team continues its 2018 campaign this weekend, Friday, Sept. 7 when it travels to Three Rivers, Mich. to compete in the George Dales Invitational dual meet (6k), hosted by Western Michigan University. The Eagles have either beaten or tied Broncos in eight consecutive seasons.

Last season, EMU finished with a team score of 24 points, with seven harriers finishing within the top-10, including three in the top-five and two in the top-three. Recent graduate Jordann McDermitt paced the squad with a time of 21.21 to place second overall, with Alsu Bogdanova finishing close behind in third with a final time of 21.31. Sophomore Ashleigh Simonis (Cape Town, South Africa-Milnerton) was the highest finisher out of all the runners currently on the roster, as the then-freshman finished eighth with a time of 22.14.

This is the second straight week Eastern squares off against conference competition, having taken part in the Toledo Rockets Invitational for the season opener, Aug. 31. There, EMU finished third with a team score of 90 points. Sophomore Madison Distelrath (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Homestead) led all Eagles with a third-place finish, clocking in at 14:22.9.

Action at the Pine View Golf Club is slated to begin at 6 p.m. Results will be available following the conclusion of the meet.
