ROCHESTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – After firing an opening round 326 at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team turned in a 325 to finish with a cumulative score of 651 in fifth-place. The tournament was hosted by Oakland University at the par 72, 6,056 yard Katke-Cousins Golf Course.
Freshman Abby Livingston (Novi, Mich.-Novi) was one of three Eagles to reside inside the top-15 spots after firing a 158 (78-80) to tie for seventh in her collegiate debut. It marked the first time in at least 15 years that an EMU freshman had placed inside the top-10 during their first career tournament. Sophomore Preaw Sripatrprasite (Bangkok, Thailand-Siam International) followed with a 162 (86-76) in a tie for 13th, while playing as an individual junior Katelin Lawson (LaSalle, Ontario-Ridge Community-University of Tampa) was 15th after a 163 (81-82).
Junior Julia Stevenson (Milford, Mich.-Milford) posted a 166 (80-86) in 22nd. Classmate Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) and freshman Green Apichonlati (Bangkok, Thailand-The Regent's International School) rounded out the scoring with a 168 (84-84) and a 169 (81-85), respectively.
The Golden Grizzlies and Loyola-Chicago shared top-billing on the leader board with a 638. Central Michigan took home third-place with a 644 followed by Green Bay (648) and EMU (651).
Head Coach Stephanie Jennings and the Eagles return to Ypsilanti to host the Second Annual Shirley Spork EMU Invitational, Oct. 8-9, at EagleCrest Golf Club.
