Eagles Swept by Duquesne to Finish Robert Morris Invitational

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team suffered a quick ending to its time at the Robert Morris Sheraton Innvitational, Saturday, Sept. 15, falling 3-0 at the hands of Duquesne University, 18-25, 22-25, 19-25.
Eastern was led by redshirt junior Cassie Haut (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary Catholic Central), who finished the match with 13 kills on .333 hitting and three total blocks. Senior Jordan Smith (Solon, Iowa-Solon) was the only other Eagle with a positive attack percentage, knocking out eight kills on .192 hitting, while also putting up nine digs.
Junior Riley Taylor (Indianapolis, Ind.-Perry Meridian) led the team with 14 assists, while senior libero Alyssa LaFace (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) finished with 14 digs.
Duquesne held statistical advantages in most major categories, including attack percentage (.215 to .091), kills (34 to 33), digs (50 to 41) and total blocks (12 to 6). The match marked the first time on the season that the Eagles were out-blocked by their opponent.
Eastern opens up Mid-American Conference play Thursday, Sept. 20, when it travels to in-state rival Central Michigan University for a 7 p.m. match. The Eagles then welcome Kent State to the Convocation Center for its MAC home opener, Saturday, Sept. 22, at 5 p.m.
