Kaylin Williams picked up her first shutout of the season with a six-save performance
STORRS, Ct. (EMUEagles.com) – A six-save performance by senior goalkeeper Kaylin Williams (Kansas City, Mo.-Winnetonka) paired with a 42nd-minute strike by redshirt sophomore Sabrina McNeill (Whitby, Ontario-Henry Street) fueled the Eastern Michigan University soccer team to its fourth straight win Friday night, Sept. 14. Eastern stunned the University of Connecticut, 1-0, under the lights of Joseph J. Morrne Stadium to move to 5-3-0 on the season.
The Eagles' four-game win streak is their longest since the 2014 season. Additionally, the clean sheet is the 11th of Williams' career and second of the season for the Green and White. Meanwhile, McNeill's goal, her third of the season, moved her into 22nd all-time in career points, surpassing Ellie Tillar.
Williams was peppered with shots early, as the Huskies rattled off six shots over the first 35 minutes of play. Answering every UConn challenge, Williams' four saves kept the game scoreless into the 40th minute.
After creating a few chances, a foul at the edge of the 18 gave Eastern Michigan a free kick. Stepping to the ball, redshirt sophomore Sabrina McNeill (Whitby, Ontario-Henry Street) bent a shot around the UConn wall and into the back of the net to give EMU a 1-0 lead.
The Green and White did not relinquish the lead, holding off the Huskies down the stretch and nearly doubling its lead late, en route to the 1-nil victory.
Eastern Michigan wraps up its northeast trip Sunday, Sept. 16, with a 1 p.m. match against UMass. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
