This was Scott's first title at the USATF Outdoor Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University men's track and field alum and volunteer coach, Donald Scott, captured the triple jump national title at the 2018 Outdoor USA Track and Field Championships Friday, June 22 in Des Moines, Iowa at Drake Stadium. The former EMU student-athlete set a personal record in the event, marking a distance of 17.37m in his last attempt.

Scott, who was personally coached by jumps coach Sterling Roberts, has performed at the USATF Outdoor Championships in each of the last three years, but has never secured a championship until this past weekend. In last year's outdoor championships, he launched 17.25m to place third in the country, which ultimately earned him a trip to the IAAF World Championships.

While with the Eagles, Scott had an incredible career, as he was both the EMU and the Mid-American Conference record holder in the triple jump for both indoor and outdoor seasons. In addition to being the best triple jumper in program history, he was also an accomplished long jumper, holding the third-best jump in the EMU record books. Scott was named a First Team All-American as a senior in both the 2014-15 indoor season and the outdoor season after posting top-three finishes at the national championships.

Additionally, EMU alum Willy Fink took part in the championships, where he placed 11th in the 5000m with a time of 13:45.36.
