Eagles Wrap Up Season with Best CAA Finish Since 2016

Eastern Michigan tied for fourth with nine points

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University rowing season came to a close at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships Sunday morning, May 13, on the Cooper River. The Eagles totaled nine points, tying for fourth-place with Villanova, while Northeastern won the league title for the fifth straight season with 29 points. EMU's finish was its best since 2016, as well as the second-highest in program history.

"CAAs was a good step for the program this year," Head Coach Kemp Savage said. "Finishing one spot higher than last year, as well as having a young team with no seniors we have a lot of speed to gain for next year. I was particularly happy with the first half of the races across all the boats. In the 1V I was happy with their ability to be patient and make changes after a slower start, they really attacked the second half. I think everyone is looking forward to training this summer to hit the water running next fall and go win CAAs."

The championship format consisted of three races overall for the title, two Varsity 8+ and one Varsity 4+. Teams also participated in an additional race, but it did not count towards the championship point total.

The Eagles best showing of the day came in the Varsity 8+. Overcoming a slow start, Eastern passed up Villanova around the midway point and gave Drexel a fight for third. Going stroke-for-stroke down the stretch, EMU finished less than two seconds behind DU with a time of 7:18.246. With the fourth-place finish, EMU locked up a tie for fourth overall in the team standings and finished one spot ahead of their fifth-ranked seed.

Eastern Michigan finished fifth in both the Varsity 4+ and 2v8. In the Varsity 4+, the Green and White clocked in with a time of 8:55.374. EMU finished with a time of 8:14.246 in the 2v8 to claim its second fifth-place mark of the day.

Individually, Eastern Michigan had a pair of rowers earn conference honors. Sophomore Amanda Flora (Greenfield, Ind.-Greenfield Central) junior Sarah Anderson (Cleveland, Ohio-Charles F. Brush) were named to the All-CAA team. It was Flora's second straight season receiving the honor, while Anderson garnered the award for the first time in her career. Together, the duo mark EMU's most All-CAA honorees since 2016 and tie for the most in program history.
