Eastern now must win its final two MAC matches to secure a spot in the conference tournament
PERRYSBURG, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team could not complete its comeback attempt against Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green State University Sunday, April 8, falling 4-3 at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
As has been the trouble for EMU all season, it was unable to secure the doubles point and fell in an early 0-1 hole. Even after taking care of business at the bottom three singles spots, the Eagles were unable to pull out a fourth point and lost their third straight match.
"This was a tough loss because we had every chance to get the win but couldn't make it happen in the top three spots or doubles," said head coach Jayson Wiseman. We continue to struggle with doubles and it is costing us critical matches. That being said you have to give credit to BGSU for getting the job done when and where it counts."
Senior Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna (Alicante, Spain-IES Figueras Pacheco) continued her strong play of the weekend, winning her third match in three days with a 7-6, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles. Fellow senior Andrea Martinovska (Plzn, Czech Republic-Sport and Management School) came away with an exciting 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles, while freshman Natalia Regalado (Alicante, Spain-IES Figueras Pacheco) picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.
"Tavpash came through for them at No. 3 despite a really nasty fall and their No. 1 & No. 2 players made all the clutch shots when they needed them," added Wiseman. "Hopefully we can build on some of the positive play we had and build on it for Friday."
EMU wraps up its home portion of the 2018 dual season with a pair of matches Friday, April 13. The Eagles take on another MAC foe in the University of Toledo at 1 p.m., and then welcome Tiffin University at 6 p.m. at the Chippewa Racquet Club.
