4x400 Relay Team Caps Off Penn Relays with Strong Performance

4/28/2018 6:25:00 PM | Women's Track & Field

The squad's time of 3:37.31 ranks third all-time in school history

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team completed its busy weekend at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. Saturday, April 28.

EMU only had one performance in the last day of action, as senior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa.-Hempfield Area), sophomore Micah Johnston (Toledo, Ohio-Toledo Christian), and freshmen Keypathwa Gibson (Toledo, Ohio-Roy C. Start) and Michaela Nelms (Rocky Mount, N.C.-Nash Central) competed in the 4x400.

Although they served as the only performance of the day for Eastern, the squad did not disappoint. Together, the team ran to a finish of 3:37.31, just narrowly being beaten out by the University of South Carolina, who clocked a 3:37.30. The young relay squad's time bested their previous fastest time this season by over five seconds, while also ranking third all-time in program history.

The Green and White has just one meet left on the regular-season slate, as they will compete in the Toledo Invite Thursday-Friday, May 3-4, in Toledo, Ohio, before taking on the MAC Championships Thursday-Saturday, May 10-12, in Cleveland, Ohio.
