She earned the honor for the second week in-a-row

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – For the second week in-a-row, Eastern Michigan University junior third baseman Amanda Akles (La Habra, Calif.-La Habra) was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday, April 17.

Akles is the first Eagle to earn the weekly conference honor twice in a season since Michelle Kriegshauser did so last year, while Tuesday's announcement marks the third time she has received the award in her career.

She continued to prove that she is one of the top hitters in the conference with another great week at the plate, April 11-13. The junior power hitter went 5-for-10 at the dish with a double, three homers, and nine RBI's. She also drew five walks, scored four runs, and held a 1.500 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage over four games.

The La Habra, Calif. native has now reached base in nine consecutive games, dating back to March 31. Additionally, her hot streak is one of the best stretches in program history, as the junior has belted seven home runs over the past seven games.

Akles' play, both at the plate and at the hot corner, was pivotal in leading EMU to a 3-2 mark last week, that included a win over MAC West-leading Toledo, April 11, and a sweep of Central Michigan, April 13. Eastern's victories over CMU gave the Eagles their first series win over the Chippewas since 2009.

The Green and White return to the diamond against Northern Illinois University Friday-Saturday, April 20-21. The three-game series gets underway Friday with a 3 p.m. first pitch at Varsity Field.
