Bogdanova and the Distance Medley Relay Squad Set for NCAA Championship

3/7/2018 9:40:00 AM | Women's Track & Field

Bogdanova will compete in both the distance medley relay and 3000m run

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team will be represented by four student-athletes at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend, Friday-Saturday, March 9-10, in College Station, Texas. The four Eagles will compete in the distance medley relay while redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83) is set to compete in the 3000m as well.

The DMR team includes seniors Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa.-Hempfield Area), Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium-KA2 Sportschool), and Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley), as well as Bogdanova. The crew finished the indoor season ranked seventh in the nation with a blistering time of 11:00.51. Not only does that mark rank seventh in the country, it also serves as EMU's all-time record in the event and was the fastest time in the Mid-American Conference this season by more than 38 seconds. Additionally, Bogdanova punched a ticket into the 3000m race as the 16th seed after an impressive regular season and conference championship showing. Furthermore, junior Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community) has been selected as an alternate for the relay team.

This is the second straight year Eastern has sent representatives to the NCAA Indoor Championships, after senior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison) competed in last year's 5000m race. There, McDermitt ran to an EMU-best time of 15:43.95 to earn First Team All-American honors as she placed sixth in the nation.

The NCAA Championship is slated to begin Friday, March 9, with the distance medley relay set to start at 9 p.m. Bogdanova will round out EMU's indoor season Saturday, March 10, with the 3000m scheduled to commence at 6:25 p.m. Fans are encouraged to follow along via live results by clicking here, or by watching a live stream offered by ESPN3.
