Eagles to Compete in GVSU Big Meet and Husky Invite

This will be the fourth consecutive year EMU has competed in the Big Meet
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team picks back up this weekend as it treks back to Allendale, Mich. Friday, Feb. 9 for the annual GVSU Big Meet, while sending a group of five to Seattle, Wash. to take part in the Husky Invite Friday-Saturday, Feb. 9-10.
EMU has found consistent success in Allendale, having competed in the Big Meet the past three seasons. Most recently, last year's meet saw the sprints crew dominate the 60m dash, with then-sophomore Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell) and then-freshman Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio-West Geauga) sweeping the top-two spots, respectively. Current senior Tifani Byrd (toms River, N.J.-Toms River North) also had a strong outing in the 60m hurdles, notching a fourth-place finish with a time of 8.79. Former student-athlete Natalie Uy highlighted the field events, taking second in the pole vault with a height of 3.81m.
For this year's Big Meet, the Green and White looks to carry its momentum gathered from the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic and Meyo Invite, Feb. 2-3. The Meyo Invitational had two student-athletes mark impressive personal-records, as seniors Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium-Sportschool KA2) and Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley) posted career-bests in the 800m and mile, respectively. Both performances currently serve as the top times in the Mid-American Conference for their respective events, as well as second all-time in the EMU indoor record book. Additionally, Cizmas' time ranks 13th in the nation for the mile, while Wyns' time in the 800m ranks 41st. For her efforts, Cizmas also earned MAC Track Athlete of the Week honors for the second straight week.
