Eagles Sit in Sixth with One Round to Go at Rio Verde Intercollegiate

RIO VERDE, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – With one round to go at the Rio Verde Intercollegiate, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team sits in sixth place. Junior Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) led the Eagles in the second round of play Saturday, Feb. 24, carding a team-best 74.
A birdie on the 16th hole highlighted Guilleux's second round of play, as the France native finished two over-par. She currently ranks sixth in a field of 97 golfers, and is just three strokes off the lead, currently held by Akron's Danielle Nicholson.
Overall, EMU shaved three strokes off its opening round 308 to fire a 305 on its second time through the course. Akron leads the team standings with a two-day total of 599, while Seton Hall and Arkansas State round out the top-three at 603 and 604, respectively.
Sophomore Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) turned in a three over-par, 75, to crack into the top-20. Finishing day one in a tie for 24th-place, Connelly now ranks tied for 19th with a two-day total of 152. Fellow sophomore Katelin Lawson (LaSalle, Ontario-Ridge Community-Tampa) is in a tie for 47th. Sophomore Julia Stevenson (Milford, Mich.-Milford) finished with an 77, while freshman Preaw Sripatrprasite (Bangkok, Thailand-Siam International) added a 79 as both improved upon their opening round scores. Stevenson sits in a tie for 52nd after dropping five strokes off Friday's opening score. Sripatrprasite is not far behind, holding a two-round total of 160 to rank tied for 58th.
Continuing in her return from injury, junior Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) carded an 82. She is currently tied for 44th as an individual.
The final round takes place tomorrow, Feb. 25.
