EMU Notches 15 Top-Five Placements at Silverston Invite

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team completed its first half of competition this weekend at the Silverston Invite Friday, Feb. 16, in Ann Arbor, Mich. The meet saw 15 earn top-five finishes, and four mark new personal-records.
Altogether, Eastern had consistent performances throughout almost each event. In the 800m, senior Tom Jozwiak (Southgate, Mich.-Thomas J. Anderson) nearly missed his all-time mark with a time of 1:54.09 to place second. The 600m also had an Eagle finish runner up, with freshman Derek Jones (Erie, Pa.-Cathedral Preparatory) notching a personal-record time of 1:21.39 in the event. Additionally, EMU had two field student-athletes also earn career-marks, as redshirt junior Austin Hazek (Medina, Ohio-Medina) notched a distance of 18.16m in the weight throw to take silver, while freshman Skyler Lester (Marietta, Ga.-Marietta) tabbed a height of 2.05m in the high jump to also place second. Senior Brandon Bolden (Solon, Ohio-Solon) also had an impressive outing in the triple jump, capturing second with a distance of 13.58m.
Eastern finishes out its weekend with the Alex Wilson Invite tomorrow in South Bend, Ind. The meet will serve as the last regular season competition for the Eagles before they head into the Mid-American Conference tournament Friday-Saturday, Feb. 23-24.
