Rowing Announces Addition To 2018 Signing Class

Knox joins Kettler, McCaslin, and McCurley as additions to Eagles for 2019-2020 season

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University Head Rowing Coach Kemp Savage announced an addition to his 2018 signing class, Friday, Dec. 21. Kaialani (Kaia) Knox (Carmel, Indiana-Carmel) joins Alexis Kettler (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton), Lena McCaslin (Hendersonville, Tenn.-Pope John Paul II), and Claire McCurley (Harrison, Ohio-William Henry Harrison) as new members of the Eagles' rowing team for the 2019-2020 season.

"Kaia's athletic ability really impressed us in the short time she has been rowing," Kemp explained. "She has used the lessons she has learned from the other sports she has been involved in and has applied those skills to show a lot of speed and aptitude for rowing."

Knox prepped at Carmel High School in Carmel, Ind. and began her rowing career just one year ago at the Indianapolis Rowing Center. Knox brings her extensive experience in athletics to the Eagles as she is a veteran competitive swimmer of 13 years, while earning three varsity letters on Carmel's swim team. 

When asked about her commitment to Eastern Michigan, Kaia noted her excitement to be a part of the Eagles rowing team: "I am so excited to have the opportunity to be apart something incredibly special with EMU rowing!" 

The Eagles kick off 2019 competition with a scrimmage against the University of Alabama, Saturday, March 2, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The team then travels to Bloomington, Indiana to take on the Hoosiers in a scrimmage Sunday, March 24. EMU heads to its first regatta in April, when it travels to the Cooper Invitational in Cherry Hill, N.J., Sunday, April 7, followed by a trip to Occoquan, Va. April 14-16 for the George Mason Invite. The Green and White will close out the 2018-19 season at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, Sunday, May 19.
