ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
— The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team returned to competition with an exhibition quad meet hosted by the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. Sunday, Dec. 2. The Eagles finished with a final score of 192.0, besting the likes of Central Michigan University (191.85) and Western Michigan University (191.725), while coming up short against the Wolverines (195.125).

"It was really great to get out on the competition floor today," said EMU Head Coach Katie Minasola. "I was really proud of how the team started and finished the meet today. We had some new people in lineups and we were able to throw in some new skills which will prepare us for the start of our season in January."

EMU's best event of the day came during the final rotation on vault. The Eagles posted an event score of 48.6, led by senior Ciara Gresham (Shiloh, Ill.-Belleville), who posted Eastern's highest score of 9.775 in her first time back into the official lineup since Jan. 13, 2017. Junior Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) and sophomore Cali Harden (Saline, Mich.-Saline) also turned in solid performances, each recording a 9.725 to tie for 12th overall.

Dobronics laid claim to EMU's highest individual score of all performances on the day, marking a 9.8 on floor to place fifth overall in the event. Redshirt sophomore Allie Smith (Telford, Pa.-Souderton) also had a strong routine, tying her career-best floor score with a 9.75 to finish 10th.

Sophomore Jada Rondeau (Norwood Young America, Minn.-Central) joined Dobronics in the all-around, as the two finished with scores of 38.45 and 38.575, respectively.

Getting their first taste of collegiate competition were freshmen Charlotte Reynolds (Leominster, Mass.-Leominster), Shannon Gregory (Edison, N.J.-John P. Stevens), and Caitlin Satler (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg). Reynolds took part on bars while Gregory and Satler each competed on beam and floor.

EMU kicks off its regular season Jan. 12, when it travels to Pittsburgh, Pa. to take on Utah State University, West Virginia University, and competition-host University of Pittsburgh in a quad meet.
