FORT WORTH, Texas (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team hits the road for another showdown against an AP Top-25 opponent, taking on No. 18 Texas Christian University Monday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. CT at Schollmaier Arena.
Eastern Michigan enters the meeting 4-3 on the season after getting tripped up at home by Detroit Mercy, 78-74, Saturday, Nov. 24. The Horned Frogs are looking to rebound from a loss as well, having fallen to Lipscomb at home, 73-64, Tuesday, Nov. 20.
The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports Southwest with Brian Estridge on the play-by-play and Colin Boddicker providing analysis. Chad Bush and Kyler Ludlow will also have the call on WEMU 89.1 FM. Additional coverage can be found by following @EMUHoops on Twitter, and through live stats at EMUEagles.com.
PAINT DOMINANCE: EMU dominated in the paint in its home loss to Detroit Mercy Saturday, Nov. 24, putting up 44 points inside compared to the Titan's 18. The Eagles also won the rebounding battle 48-34.
THREE-POINT WOES: Eastern Michigan has had two-fold troubles at the three point line this season, shooting just 28.3 percent from downtown on offense while allowing opponents to shoot 35.5 percent. In fact, the Eagles have made half as many three's (36) as they have allowed (72) so far in 2018-19.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE TROUBLE: Eastern Michigan got impressive double-double performances out of its two big men in Saturday's loss to Detroit Mercy, as James Thompson IV (Baton Rouge, La.-Parkview Baptist) poured in a season-high 24 points and grabbed 14 boards while redshirt junior Boubacar Toure (Dakar, Senegal-Phase One Academy (Grand Canyon) added 12 points and 14 rebounds of his own.
It marked the first time this season that two Eagles had double-doubles in the same game, and the first time since Thompson and Elijah Minnie (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Lincoln Park (Robert Morris) did so against Central Michigan, Feb. 18, 2018.
CRASHING THE BOARDS: The Eagles had an impressive performance on the glass against Detroit Mercy, Nov. 24, grabbing a season-best 48 total rebounds including 23 offensive boards. In fact, the 23 offensive caroms marked the highest for an EMU team since Dec. 1, 2014 when the Green and White pulled down 25 against Marygrove.
To find Eastern's best performance against an NCAA Division I opponent you have to go back to Feb. 9, 2000, when the Eagles pulled down 25 against Kent State.
ALL-TIME VS. TCU: Eastern Michigan and TCU have faced one another just one other time in program history: a double-overtime thriller in Fort Worth Dec. 21, 1999.
The Eagles fell to the Horned Frogs 107-101, even though they outshot the hosts from the floor 47.2 percent to 34.8 percent and the three-point line, 46.2 percent to 25 percent. The difference came at the charity stripe, as TCU made 56 of 70 attempts (80 percent), while EMU shot just 11 of 18 (61.1 percent).
Leading the way for the Eagles in the game was Corey Tarrant, who had a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, as well as Calvin Warner, who had 19 points and 10 boards.
THREE-POINT TROUBLES, CONT.: Eastern Michigan has yet to make double-digit three pointers in a game this season, yet has allowed opponents to make 10-or-more long-range shots in five games this year. Only two, Duke and Boston, have not.
ALL-TIME VS. BIG 12: EMU has only played three games against teams in the Big 12 Conference in its 120-year history, holding a 2-1 record. Aside from the loss at TCU, Dec. 21, 1999, Eastern defeated Texas Tech as part of the Sierra Medical Center Sun Carnival in El Paso, Texas, 93-77, in the 1995-96 season, and also took down Baylor at the Connecticut Classic, 71-69, Jan. 11, 1975.
CHASING DOWN THE REBOUND RECORD: Senior James Thompson IV has led Eastern in rebounding in each of the last six games, and tied a season-best with 14 boards against Detroit Mercy, Nov. 24.
Thompson is the NCAA's active career rebound leader with 1,172 during his three-plus seasons with Eastern. The Baton Rouge, La. native needs 254 boards to pass all-time EMU record holder Kennedy McIntosh. He is also second in the NCAA in career double-doubles with 61 and trails McIntosh as EMU's all-time leader by 17.
EMU IN THE LONESTAR STATE: The Eagles have not faired well historically when playing games in Texas, holding a record of 1-5. Most recently, Eastern fell in a CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) game at Sam Houston State, 62-69. In fact, EMU's lone win in the Lonestar State was a neutral site showdown against Texas Tech Dec. 27, 1995.
EMU VS. THE STATE OF TEXAS: Eastern also holds an all-time record of 3-7 against teams from Texas, with its last win coming Nov. 18, 2012 against Texas Pan-American by a 57-47 final. The game was part of the EMU Ice Man Classic during head coach Rob Murphy's first season at the helm of the Green and White.
ON THE HORIZON: The Eagles finish their two-game roadtrip with a journey to the east coast, taking on Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., Saturday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m.
After a week's break, Eastern returns to the friendly confines of the Convocation Center Dec. 8 to take on Central State University at 12 p.m.
