Redshirt senior Danielle Minott was named to the All-MAC West Preseason team
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team was selected to finish third in the Mid-American Conference West Division as the league office announced its 2018-19 preseason poll Wednesday, Oct. 31. Additionally, redshirt senior Danielle Minott (Miami, Fla.-Miami Country Day (Syracuse)) was named to the All-MAC West Preseason team.
Central Michigan, receiving all 12 first-place votes, was the predicted MAC West Champion, followed by Toledo and EMU. Narrowly behind Eastern (41) was Northern Illinois with 38 points, while Ball State (34) and Western Michigan (15) rounded out the rankings.
In the East, three different teams reeled in first-place votes in Buffalo, Miami, and Ohio. The Bulls, with four top votes, edged out Miami by a point, 62-61, and were selected to repeat as East Division Champions, while Ohio's 57 points ranked third. Kent State (28) and Bowling Green (27) were slotted fourth and fifth, respectively, while Akron finished at the bottom of the East poll.
CMU was also recognized as the favorite to win the MAC Regular Season Championship as well as the MAC Tournament Championship. Elsewhere, Miami and Ohio garnered MAC Regular Season Championship votes, while Buffalo and Northern Illinois reeled in MAC Tournament Championship votes.
Following an outstanding season with the Green and White in which she set the EMU single game scoring record, Minott became the first Eagle to be named Preseason All-MAC West since the 2015-16 season. In her first season as an Eagle, Minott paced EMU in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game, while adding 5.3 rebounds per contest. A Third Team All-MAC selection a year ago, Minott finished the season ranked inside the MAC's top-20 in four categories, including points per game (seventh-16.7), steals per game (eighth-2.1), three-point field goal percentage (14th-35.4), and three's made per game (eighth-2.3).
Eastern Michigan lifts the lid on the 2018-19 campaign at home Friday, Nov. 9, against Cleveland State University in the second leg of an Education Day doubleheader with the EMU men's basketball team. Tipoff for the men's game against Goshen College is slated for 11 a.m., while the women's game will start at approximately 1:30 p.m.
