The Eagles fell 3-1 at the hands of the Chippewas
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team fought hard Thursday, Oct. 25, but ultimately fell 3-1 to Central Michigan University at the Convocation Center.
Winning the first set, 25-17, EMU (14-11, 6-5 MAC) struggled with CMU (5-18, 2-9 MAC) for the rest of the match, falling 22-25, 20-25, 23-25.
Four Eagles found double-figure kills in the match, as redshirt junior Cassie Haut (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary Catholic Central) led the way with 16. Junior Ariel Hamby (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) had 12, senior Jordan Smith (Solon, Iowa-Solon) added11, and sophomore April Houston (Minneapolis, Minn.-Southwest) finished with 10. Additionally, Smith registered 10 digs to complete her fourth double-double of the season.
Senior Mallory Rajewski (Midland, Mich.-Midland) registered a double-double of 30 assists and 13 digs, while Riley Taylor (Indianapolis, Ind.-Perry Meridian) added 23 assists to the Eagles attack. Senior Alyssa LaFace (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) led all players with 19 digs, followed by sophomore Franki Strefling (Niles, Mich.-Buchanan) with 12.
The Eagles fell despite leading the Chippewas in kills (61 to 50), attack percentage (.222 to .201), digs (106 to 105), and assists (60 to 47)
EMU travels to Ohio University on Saturday, Oct. 27th for a 6 p.m. bout with the Bobcats. The following weekend, Friday Nov. 2nd, the Eagles host the University of Toledo at the Convocation Center for a 7 p.m. match.
