YPSILANTI, Mich. & BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team hosts the University of Toledo Thursday, Oct. 4, before a road bout against Bowling Green State University Sunday, Oct. 7. EMU and UT meet for midweek #MACtion with a 4 p.m. start time Thursday, while the EMU-BGSU clash is slated for 1 p.m.
Eastern Michigan enters the weekend 2-2 in league play after a pair of overtime matches. EMU outlasted the University of Akron, 1-0, Sept. 28, before being nipped in OT by the University at Buffalo, Sept. 30. Toledo owns a 2-2 MAC record, having most recently bested Northern Illinois, 5-1. Meanwhile, Bowling Green is one of two unbeaten teams in the league at 4-0 through two weeks of conference play.
Links for live stats can be found on the soccer schedule page of EMUEagles.com, while the Eagles showdown with the Falcons will be streamed on YouTube. Additionally, the action will be live tweeted from the team's account, @EMUSoccer.
SHE'S STREAKING!: Redshirt junior Kristin Nason has found her stride as of late, piecing together a four-match point streak after a two-assist weekend, Sept. 28-30. Over the last four matches, Nason has recorded three goals and two assists to pace EMU's offense. Her streak is the longest by an Eagle since Bianca Rossi tallied a point in four consecutive matches from Sept. 5-28, 2014. Should she extend her streak to five matches, it will be the longest since Angela Vultaggio's six-match point streak in 2013, the second-longest in EMU history.
HELPING HAND…ON SECOND THOUGHT, HELPING BOOT: Sophomore defender Lindsey Shira's assist on Alia Frederick's goal at Buffalo, Sept. 30, was Shira's team-leading fourth of the season. Shira's four helpers are the most by an Eagle since Rachel Washburn was credited with five in the 2015 season.
'BOUT THOSE #blockEfriday BOUTS: The Eagles have added plenty of excitement to #blockEfridays this season, posting a 5-1 record in Friday matches. In fact, since its season-opening defeat at Purdue, Aug. 17, Eastern has won five straight Friday tilts.
EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT!: Eastern found itself on both sides of overtime this weekend, Sept. 28-30. EMU bested Akron, 1-0, before being clipped, 2-1, in OT by Buffalo, Sept. 30. Since the program's inception in 1995, EMU has compiled a 16-33-45 record in extra time.
MAKIN' MOVES: Redshirt sophomore Sabrina McNeill continued to climb EMU's career points ladder with her third game-winning goal of the season to lift EMU past Akron, Sept. 28. McNeill currently ranks 21st in EMU history with 28 points and trails Amy Westerhold by one point, while Kristin Nason sits in 19th-place with 32 points. EMU E-Club Hall of Famer Jessica Hupe holds the program standard with 117 points.
KAYLIN'S KINGDOM: Kaylin Williams recorded the 300th save of her career over the weekend, Sept. 28-30, becoming just the fourth Eagle in program history to eclipse the 300-stop mark. Additionally, the Kansas City, Mo. native is the first EMU keeper to break into the 300-save club since Maggie Manville did so in 2011.
SERIES HISTORY: Eastern Michigan owns a 28-21-2 record against this weekend's competition all-time, leading each of the individual series against its conference foes.
The Eagles hold a slim 13-12-1 edge in their all-time series against the Rockets. Toledo handed Eastern a 4-1 setback last season in the Glass City. Meanwhile, EMU outlasted UT, 2-1, in overtime the last time the two met at Scicluna Field during the 2016 campaign.
Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green have met 25 times in their respective histories, with EMU leading the all-time tally, 15-9-1. The Eagles have come out on top, 2-1, in the last two meetings, including a double-OT thriller last year. Peyton Davis registered a goal and an assist in the win, while Kaylin Williams made four saves to lead the Eagles to the win.
WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS: Eastern Michigan compiled a 5-3-0 record in the month of September, its first winning record in the ninth month of the year since 2014. That year, EMU turned in a 4-1-0 record in September.
KAYLIN'S CLIMB: Senior netminder Kaylin Williams has proven to be one of the top keepers to come through Ypsilanti. Learning from former EMU standout Megan McCabe as a freshman and continuing to benefit from the tutelage of Dan Diac, Williams has created quite a legacy. With 62 saves to her credit this season, the Kansas City, Mo. native has racked up 308 for her career. She currently ranks fourth in EMU laurels, and trails Nikki Allen's third-ranked mark by four.
3...2...1...#MACTION: Eastern Michigan is in its 21st season competing as a member of the Mid-American Conference. The Eagles have compiled a 113-72- 25 record in league play and are looking to claim their fourth MAC title, and first since 2013. Eastern was the 1999, 2003, and 2013 MAC Regular Season Champion.
HOME COOKING: Eastern Michigan has found consistent success when playing at home over the past 23 years, compiling a 113-57-28 overall record, good for a .641 win percentage, at Scicluna Field. This season, EMU is 4-2 on its home pitch.
ON THE HORIZON: EMU hits the road for the last time in 2018 next weekend, Oct. 12- 14. The Eagles open up the weekend in DeKalb, Ill. against Northern Illinois University Friday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. CT. Eastern wraps up its roadtrip with a stop in Kalamazoo, Mich. for a Sunday clash with in-state rival Western Michigan University, Oct. 14.
