EMU Volleyball Tripped Up by BGSU Saturday Night

Smith's 15 kills highlight the offensive night for the Eagles
YPSILANTI, Mich (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team was tripped up by Bowling Green State University, Saturday Oct. 13, falling 3-1 to the Falcons in the Convocation Center.
After dropping the first set, 25-23, Eastern Michigan (13-9, 5-3 MAC) came back to win set two 25-20. BGSU (13-8, 7-1 MAC) seized the tempo from EMU, defeating them in sets three and four, 26-24 and 25-22. The Eagles have not defeated the Falcons since the 2015 season, and have not bested them in the Convocation Center since 2014.
Eastern's hard-working offensive effort was led by senior Jordan Smith (Solon, Iowa-Solon), who finished the match with 15 kills. Redshirt junior Cassie Haut (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary Chatholic Central) joined her in double-digit kills with 14 of her own, with an attack percentage of .297. Sophomore April Houston (Minneapolis, Minn.-Southwest High School) had 12 kills with just one error for an attack percentage of .355.
Redshirt senior Mallory Rajewski (Midland, Mich.-Midland) led the team with 41 assists and registered her 11th double-double of the season with 17 digs. Right behind her was junior Riley Taylor (Indianapolis, Ind.-Perry Merdian), who put up 16 digs, while sophomore Franki Strefling (Niles, Mich.-Buchanan) added 15. Senior libero Alyssa LaFace (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) led the defensive effort with 33 digs.
The Eagles fell despite leading the Falcons in kills (60 to 53), attack percentage (.176 to .158), digs (106 to 105), assists (55 to 50), and blocks (8 to 7).
EMU travels to the University at Buffalo next Friday, Oct. 19th for a 6 p.m. bout with the Bulls. The following day, Saturday Oct. 20th, the Eagles head to the University of Akron to play the Zips at 5 p.m.
