The Eagles are coming off their first team victory of the season

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team returns to competition Friday-Saturday, Feb. 2-3, as members of the team split to represent EMU in both the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind. and the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic in Hillsdale, Mich.

The Eagles are coming off the GVSU Lints Alumni Meet, Jan. 27, which served as a platform for multiple student-athletes to solidify themselves in the top ranks of the Mid-American Conference. Perhaps the most impressive performance of the evening came from senior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley), who marked a mile time of 4:40.31 to break her personal-record and move up to second all-time in the EMU indoor record book. The Clinton Twp., Mich.-native bested her old time by four seconds and in doing so, notched the ninth-best time in the NCAA and claimed the top spot for the mile run in the MAC so far this season. Cizmas also participated in the 800m where she put together another solid run, crossing the finish line in 2:11.01 to place second behind teammate and redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83), who finished in 2:10.91. The two now rank second and third in the MAC for the 800m, trailing only teammate and senior Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium-Sportschool KA2), who currently holds the top position with a time of 2:09.40, which she notched in the Tom Wright Classic, Jan. 19. For her performance in last week's meet, Cizmas earned MAC Track Athlete of the Week honors.

Friday's meet also saw the return of All-American senior captain Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison), who quickly jumped into the MAC's top rankings, as she now sits in fourth for the 3000m with a time of 9:37.90, and ninth in the mile with a time of 4:50.98. Additionally, freshman Madison Distelrath (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Homestead) marked the conference's best time for a freshman in the mile this season with 4:57.23, spotting her at 12th overall in the conference.

Eastern's sprints crew used the Lints Alumni Meet as an opportunity to capture three of the top-five conference rankings in the 400m, including the top two marks. Senior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa.-Hempfield Area) marked a conference-best 54.89 with sophomore Micah Johnston (Toledo, Ohio-Toledo Christian) finishing right on her heels with a time of 54.92. With Johnston also marking a time of 24.41 in the 200m during the meet, the duo of Jones and Johnston now hold the top-two spots in the MAC for both the 200 and 400m dash, with freshman Michaela Nelms (Rocky Mount, N.C.-Nash Central) ranking fourth and fifth in the 200m and 400m, respectively.

EMU will have representatives in both the Meyo Invitational and Hillsdale Wide Track Classic over the course of the two days, with live results available on the track and field schedule page on EMUEagles.com
