Eastern Treks To Oxford For MAC Showdown

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — After going 2-0 last weekend, the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team treks to Oxford, Ohio for a Mid-American Conference tilt against Miami University Saturday, Jan. 27. The Eagles are in search of their 13th consecutive MAC dual win, having not lost a conference dual meet since the 2014-15 campaign. This meet also serves as an opportunity to secure their third consecutive season with an undefeated MAC record, as EMU currently sits at 3-0 in conference this campaign.

The Green and White are coming off a blazing weekend that saw it defeat MAC-rival Ball State, 168-116, Friday, Jan. 19, before downing in-state foe Wayne State, 181-111, Saturday, Jan. 20. Between the two days, juniors Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville) and Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) paced Eastern with three event wins apiece, while junior Emilie Desnoyers (St. Albert, Alberta), sophomores Casey Gavigan (East Setauket, N.Y.-Ward Melville) and Claire Young (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Pointe South), and freshman Meike Staffeldt (Niedersachsen, Germany) all racked up a pair of first-place finishes.

Since the inaugural meeting between the Eagles and RedHawks in the 1976-77 season, the Green and White have compiled an 8-29 dual record against Miami, while winning the last two duals. Last year, EMU posted a blistering score of 185-115 over MU, while Mary Grace Van Allen racked up three event wins. Alexis Mitchelltree and Swartz added a pair of first-place finishes of their own. Swartz posted a pair of then-career-best times of 10:05.30 and 4:56.39 to win the 1000 and 500 freestyle.
