The Eagles officially open the season Oct. 15 in East Lansing
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team raced against the University of Michigan, Sunday, Sept. 17, in exhibition action on Belleville Lake. The two squads participated in four 3000-meter pieces, giving the Eagles the opportunity to gain experience before officially opening the season next month.
"Michigan was strong as expected," Head Coach Kemp Savage said. "We did a good job with our effort on the first two pieces, but were not very clean. We did a much better job focusing on our technique on the last two 3Ks but were a little too fatigued. It was a good chance to get a very early race and the first collegiate race for two of our freshmen, and we will be getting back to work for our next race."
Going head-to-head with a team that finished third in the country a season ago allowed Savage and his staff to evaluate the team and test out various lineups. The Green and White used two different lineups, with juniors Sarah Anderson (Cleveland, Ohio-Charles F. Brush) and Kelli Sharples (Pinckney, Mich.-Pickney) each participating in two pieces each.
