Sam Falco Named MAC West Defensive Player of the Week

Falco averaged seven total blocks and five kills over four matches
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University senior volleyball player Samantha Falco (Antioch, Ill.-Antioch Community) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Aug. 27. It is the first award of her career and the first for the Eagles since the 2015 season.
Falco put together a strong performance on the first day of the Butler Tournament, finishing with 15 total blocks in matches against Oakland and Robert Morris. The senior's six-block, four-kill performance against Oakland was backed up by a nine-block, six-kill showing against Robert Morris.
The Illinois native followed up the first day's performance with 13 more blocks against Stony Brook and Butler on day two. In total, Falco averaged 7.0 total blocks per match while also adding 21 kills and five solo blocks.
The Player of the Week award is the first for EMU volleyball since Corynne Smith won Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 10, 2015.
Eastern Michigan has started the season 2-2 and travel to Laramie, Wyo. to take on Wyoming, Purdue and Jacksonville in the Wyoming Tournament, Friday, Sep. 1 and Saturday, Sep. 2.
