The Eagles totaled 11 points on the day
PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team concluded the 2017 season at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships this morning, May 14, on the Cooper River. The Eagles claimed fifth place, totaling 11 points overall.
The championship format had three races overall for the title, two Varsity 8+ and one Varsity 4+. Eastern had its best finish in the Varsity 4 race, claiming fourth place with a time of 8:12.7, finishing ahead of Buffalo and Villanova. They finished two spots ahead of their initial sixth seed.
In the 1V8+, EMU claimed fifth with a time of 6:53.5, ahead of Buffalo and just three seconds behind fourth place Delaware. Finally in the 2V8+, took sixth, crossing the finish line with a time of 7:18.1, three seconds off fifth place Buffalo.
Individually, EMU had a pair of rowers earn All-CAA honors. Freshman Amanda Flora (Greenfield, Ind.-Greenfield Central) was named to the All-CAA team, while sophomore Baylee Kinkade (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) was tabbed as EMU's representative on the CAA All-Academic team.
"The CAA Championships started out well with our four placing two spots above their seed," Head Coach Kemp Savage said. "As the morning went on the consistency issues we have had throughout the year from race to race and day to day came back up with our 1V and 2V not posting their best races. We set a lot of new benchmarks this year and we are going to start prepping to move up next year."
