Andresson Named MAC Track Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio. (EMUEagles.com) - For the first time in his career, redshirt junior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland - Mountain Ridge) of the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team was named the Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday, April 4.
Andresson paced the Eagles in the 5000m run at the Stanford Invitational, as he turned in a personal-best time of 14:00.83, which was also the seventh-best time in program history, to put him in third of section three. Not only was Andresson's time a career-best and one of the best in EMU history, but it also broke the Icelandic outdoor 5000m record. Andresson's time currently stands at No. 19 on the 2017 NCAA Division I Outdoor Qualifying List.
This marks the first time in his career that Andresson has earned the award, while it is EMU's third of the year and first of the outdoor season. Andresson and the Eagles continue the season later this week at the Tennessee Relays, April 6-8.
