Murphy Collects Second Team Honors, EMU Wraps Up MAC Championship Play

SILVER LAKE, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Firing a final round 312, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished in a tie for seventh-place at the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championship with a three-day cumulative score of 954 (319-323-312). No. 15 Kent State University captured its 19th consecutive league title, finishing at 11-over 875 (289-298-288) on the par 72, 6,177 yard Silver Lake Country Club course.
EMU junior Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) tied for seventh with a 12-over 228 (75-77-76) for her third top-10 finish of the 2016-17 campaign. Overall, it marked her second career top-10 showing at the league's championship having tied for ninth at the event in 2015.
Senior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) wrapped up a sensational EMU career in 30th with a 240 (82-77-81). For her season-long efforts, she was selected Second Team All-MAC for the third time in her career. Murphy also collected second team honors in 2014 and 2016, while taking home first team accolades in 2015. She joins Darby Peters (2009-12) as the only student-athletes in school history to grab all-conference honors in each of their four years playing. The Plymouth, Mich. native concludes her career as EMU's all-time average scoring leader at 75.81 stokes over the course of 114 rounds.
Sophomore Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) posted her best round of the weekend with a 77 to take 34th with a 241 (79-85-77). Freshman Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) also stepped up her play with a final round 78 for a three-day total of 245 (83-84-78).
Northern Illinois earned runner-up at 909 followed by Western Michigan (922), Ohio (922), and Toledo (928). The Golden Flashes swept the top four individual slots as Michaela Finn earned medalist honors with a two-under par 214 total.
