YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team will begin the outdoor season this weekend, March 31 - April 1, taking part in both the Stanford Invitational, as well as the Jack Shaw Classic against Western Michigan. The Eagles will send a small contingent of distance runners to Stanford, while the majority of the team will head to Kalamazoo.
The Stanford Invitational can be followed from home through both live results, as well as a live stream. The stream, which is provided by FloTRACK, requires a FloPRO subscription. The Jack Shaw Classic can be followed with live results as well. Links to both can be found on the women's track and field schedule page of EMUEagles.com.
Eastern attend both meets last year as well, coming out on top against Western Michigan by a final tally of 109 - 82. Sophomore Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. - Slidell) finished atop the podium in the 100m dash, clocking in at 11.85 seconds, while Aaliyah McKinney won the 200m dash with a time of 24.49. The mid-distance events saw junior Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium - Sportschol KA2) claim the 800m crown in 2:15.63, with fellow junior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. - Chippewa Valley) claiming gold in the 1500m after crossing the finish line in 4:38.92.
Amy Frauhammer brought home the 3000m title with a time of 10:12.14, which was a personal-best, while Maya Carter won the 100m hurdles in a career-best 14.00 seconds. Additionally, EMU also won the 4x100m relay with a time of 46.05 seconds and junior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) secured gold in both the long jump and the triple jump. Finally, Ellie Braidic won the pole vault with a mark of 3.80 meters/ 12 feet 5.5-inches and Kristina Coyne finished atop the podium in the javelin with a throw of 37.27 meters/ 122 feet 3-inches.
Last year at Stanford, three Eagles took part in distance races. Redshirt senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - University of Leuven) finished 10th in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking it at 10:16.90. Additionally, junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) took part in the 10000m, snagging 27th with a time of 34:21.18. The highlight, however, came in the 5000m, where senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) finished fourth and broke the program record, crossing the finish line in 15:58.61.
The Jack Shaw Classic against WMU is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with the hammer throw, while track events will begin at 4:50 p.m. with the 4x100m relay. For more information on the meet, please click here.
