This marks the fourth time Fink has received the award in his career

CLEVELAND, Ohio. (EMUEagles.com) - For the fourth time in his career, redshirt senior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio - Maumee) of the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team was named the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday, Feb. 15.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented weekly to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition.

Fink, who maintains a 3.79 grade point average in chemistry, traveled to the west coast this past weekend, heading to Seattle, Wash. for the Husky Classic, Feb. 11. The Maumee, Ohio native took part in the tough 3000m run, ultimately finishing with a time of 7:57.11, which was good for eighth-place out of 104 total runners.

The redshirt senior, who narrowly missed his career-best mark of 7:56.04, which happens to be the second-best in the EMU record books, was also just four seconds away from second-place. Currently, his time ranks No. 19 on the Division I Indoor Qualifying List.

In addition to being Fink's fourth time receiving the honor, with two being in cross country and now two in track and field, it is the first for the team this season. The Green and White close out the regular season this Friday, Feb. 17, heading to the GVSU Tune-Up in Allendale, Mich.
